India has great potential for renewable energy. However, it is currently still very reliant on fossil fuels to generate energy across the country, releasing huge amounts of harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Located in the Tumkur district of Karnataka state in Southern India, the Pavagada Solar Park is a large-scale solar project that installed solar PV modules with a 250 MW capacity. This project provides renewable energy to India’s energy grid which is currently dominated by thermal and fossil fuel-based power plants.

Not only does it reduce the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, but it also benefits the local economy by employing 135 people with equal pay for both men and women. Employees are also provided with technical training to carry out monitoring and operation functions at the plant.
